The Future is now: anywhere anytime access via broadband connection

In 2002, the new CEO of IBM, Samuel Palmisano, launched a major initiative called "On-Demand" computing. "We are on the cusp of a dramatic shift in this industry," he told customers and employees at the event. In the past few years, broadband technology has dramatically improved to fulfill IBM's vision of a mobile workforce conditioned to “On-Demand” software. Now, construction software developers, like Corecon, are meeting the demands of construction businesses who need to manage their projects from the main office or the home office, from the jobsite trailer or from the road.

Most every successful construction company has a main office and even remote jobsites equipped with a persistent, high-speed broadband connection. And, some are encouraging project team members to access and download project information wirelessly from a WiFi-enabled hotspot, WiMax-enabled (802.16) area or high-tech home office. Moreover, the recent adoption of new wireless technology standards, like 802.11n and 802.16, mean that soon all construction sites will be ready to work at lightning-fast download speeds of 3-4 MB.

This year, telecommunication companies, like Verizon and Sprint plan to complete their 3G wireless networks, offering even faster Internet access (up to 1 MB upload and download speed). Verizon and Sprint already offer a wireless EV-DO card that can be plugged into a laptop. With average download speeds of 400K-700K, the EV-DO card eliminates the need for finding or creating a hotspot, because you are the hotspot.

EV-DO is ideal for construction professionals who are mobile and frequently away from the desk and the jobsite trailer. So, if you are craving fast Internet access anytime, anywhere to access the Corecon Web-based project management system, you should consider the EV-DO option that has already been adopted by up to 10% of Corecon 2006 users.

Corecon & QuickBooks – A Winning Combination for Custom Home Builder

In the construction business, cost overruns are ever-present threats that can let profits slip away. Fine homebuilder Renovo Development Company starts projects off right and keeps them on budget with QuickBooks and Corecon. Based in Park City, Utah, and in business since 2003, Renovo Development Company builds multimillion-dollar homes and works with as many as 50 different subcontractors on each project. In addition to managing the challenging logistics created by this project type, accurate budgeting and cost tracking is paramount to making these high-end residential projects profitable. To keep the costs for these multifaceted building projects under control, Renovo Development needed an application that managed both estimates and budget creation. The company sought construction management software that would transfer bills and invoices to QuickBooks, eliminating entering the same data in two systems. Corecon was the answer. The Corecon interface to QuickBooks allows Renovo Development to manage job costs and general accounting from a single interface, so that project costs are tracked from the initial estimate to the final payment. Invoices and bills are entered in Corecon and are seamlessly passed to QuickBooks for entry in the general ledger and check processing.
