Construction Project Management Software Features - Documenting Safety Accidents
Construction is inherently a dangerous business. Work is often performed under adverse
weather conditions and involves the use of hazardous materials, tools, and equipment.
Other hazards include noise, dust, excavation cave-ins, and the potential threat
of falling or being struck by falling material and equipment. The resulting injuries
can prove catastrophic in terms of loss of life and personally injury.
According to OSHA regulations, each employer shall (1) maintain in each establishment
a log and summary of all recordable occupational injuries and illnesses for that
establishment; (2) enter each recordable injury and illness on the log and summary
as early as practicable but no later than 6 working days after receiving information
that a recordable injury or illness has occurred; and (3) within eight hours after
the occurrence of an accident that results in one or more fatalities or that results
in hospitalization of three or more employees, the employer is required to file
a report on a accident either orally or in writing to the nearest area director
of OSHA.
OSHA requires record keeping for all injuries that have the following consequences:
- Death
- Loss of consciousness
- Restriction of work or motion
- One or more lost work days
- Transfer to another job
- Medical treatment other than first aid
Corecon's Safety Accidents feature has been developed to help maintain a log of
occupational injuries and illnesses and to maintain sufficient information after
a recordable case has occurred. Information can be recorded concerning personnel
injuries, as well as damage to property and equipment.
