Construction Estimating Software Features - Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
Estimates are organized and comprehended easier by breaking them down into smaller
sections. These sections are called Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and provide
the estimate framework. In Corecon, there are three (3) separate and independent
Work Breakdown Structure coding schemes: WBS 1, WBS 2, and WBS 3. Each WBS coding
scheme can have up to four (4) levels: Division, Major, Minor, and Sub-Minor.
WBS 1 is always used for cost coding and allows the estimator to document line items,
sectional markups, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications. WBS 2 and WBS 3 are
optional and are used to categorize line items only in an alternative way to WBS
1. Examples of WBS 2 or WBS 3 are location or drawing number/sheet.
For commercial contractors (GCs and Subs), WBS 1 sections are often derived from
CSI Codes. Homebuilders often use a coding structure similar to the NAHB cost codes.
However, regardless of the type of company or construction, one always has the option
to create their own unique cost code structure for WBS 1.
